Director's Message
Updated January 9th, 2025

This marks my fifth year as the director of Grayson County Health Department. As I look back on five years of service, I am encouraged by the growth of our programs as well as the bridges we have built with our community partners. As a director, I am as only as strong as the team I lead. I am thankful for their contributions and for their love of community.

Although we have many things to be grateful for, we also face several challenges. Sadly, public health faces the threat of financial cuts which would have a devastating impact on our services. Additionally, vital public health services such as vaccinations are now being questioned not based on scientific findings, but on political agenda. It's a trying time for public health officials. However, just as we served through the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to serve.

We will also continue to support scientific findings; we will continue to promote vaccinations--and work to remind the communities in which we serve that vaccines have saved countless lives. We will also do our very best, in the face of possible budget cuts, to continue to grow our services and reach as many people as we can--especially the most vulnerable.

On behalf of myself and teamGCHD, thank you for allowing us another year to serve you. At GCHD, we work today for a healthier tomorrow!

With Gratitude,
Joshua Horton, BS, MS, MBA
